They usually deal hella damage to whatever you are killing and also mob control with their AoE skills in Grand Fantasia. Bosses have AoE's but serkers aren't soft at all, they got some damage reduction of their own from the warrior class and from a talent called Bronze Sinew. They also posses high defense and Hp.
These usually aren't recommended as hammers have less attack power than 2 handed axes and tend to give int as one of their stats, so you can also use hammers and one handed swords and something you don't really need such as 1 Handed swords have low attack power but attack a lot faster and most come with chance of double attack. These are good choices as they tend to give really nice stats bonus, greater attack power than the lvl 2 handed axe or 1h axe at the cost of having no special ability.
You will most likely find a lot of better Blue axes than sword. And you can use Blue axes for a long while for your sprite to for orange axe for the level and now waiting to forge the Yellow one for the 50 tier. All in all your sprite will be your main source of weapons as the best weapons(grand fantasia gold) in the game cannot be traded and believe is a lot cheaper to craft than to buy in the AH XD.
